5.4.4 Having the conversation: Pursuing change & altering the landscape

It may take time, or it may happen quickly. There will be so many other factors playing in, many of which you may not even know about. There could be others doing the same as you. Others may be resetting their compasses too. Or you might see and experience resistance all around you. But with time, change for good will happen, in some way or another.

What’s more change on one level can influence on so many others. You might be looking for change for personal reasons, wanting to eat nutritious food, requesting for a change in available products in your local store. But that same nutritious food could be contributing to more biodiversity, even to mitigating climate change. What’s more, demanding a change in options locally, can have wider impacts on others. The gap in health equity looms large, and a big piece of the puzzle when it comes to food is the inequity in availability of healthy food choices. So if you’re in an area where food choices are inherently unhealthy, demanding change for yourself can open up doors for many others.

Exerting pressure to support better food production systems means that more producers can dare to make the transition. This allows for positive and supportive networks.

It may take effort to get it moving in the first place, but once things begin to shift, an apparent small change can grow exponentially. It’s a ball and it’s rolling.
